Dr. Gabriel Carabello
Vascular Surgeon
Dr. Gabriel Carabello is a board-certified vascular surgeon with over three decades of experience caring for patients with a wide range of vascular diseases. He has dedicated his professional life to providing surgical solutions for severe conditions like carotid artery disease, aneurysms, and circulation disorders. His career has taken him across several states and through various clinical environments, yet his focus has always remained the same—delivering consistent, patient-centered care.
Education and Medical Foundation
Dr. Gabriel was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. His early interest in science led him to Loyola Marymount University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1985. He continued his academic journey at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in 1989.
After medical school, he entered a General Surgery Internship and Residency at King-Drew Medical Center, which he completed in 1995. In the following year, he pursued a Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship to expand his clinical expertise. His interest in vascular surgery led him to complete a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at UCLA in 1997, which provided him with the advanced training necessary to specialize in complex vascular procedures.
Years later, in 2008, he attended a Mini-Fellowship in Endovascular Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, affiliated with both Columbia and Cornell. This allowed him to gain valuable knowledge in modern, minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Career and Medical Practice
Dr. Gabriel Carabello’s professional journey has included work in California, Arizona, and Florida. His career has been balanced between long-term clinical appointments and short-term assignments in facilities that require specialized vascular care. These locum tenens positions have allowed him to step in and provide crucial services in areas where healthcare coverage is limited or overwhelmed.
He has served at facilities like Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona and HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital. Earlier in his career, he practiced in several medical offices in Los Angeles, including locations on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, West Temple Street, and South Alvarado.
He has held surgical privileges at various hospitals, including White Memorial Medical Center, East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital, and Monterey Park Hospital. His work often involves procedures for vascular access in dialysis patients, as well as a wide range of endovascular surgeries.
Licenses, Certifications, and Teaching
Dr. Gabriel holds active medical licenses in California, Arizona, Florida, and New York. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. These credentials have been maintained through regular recertification and ongoing professional development.
He also holds certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and moderate sedation, enabling him to safely manage a variety of clinical scenarios. His fluency in both English and Spanish allows him to communicate effectively with a broad and diverse patient population.
He contributed to surgical education as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science from 1997 to 1999. During that time, he played a role in shaping the training of new surgeons while continuing to build his own clinical experience.
Professional Recognition
Gabriel Carabello, MD, has received numerous honors that reflect both his surgical expertise and professionalism. While in residency, he was named Surgical Nursing Staff Resident of the Year at King-Drew Medical Center—a recognition based on feedback from those who worked most closely with him. He also earned Outstanding Resident honors at California Hospital Medical Center in 1991 and again in 1995.
These awards reflect the trust and respect he built among his peers, instructors, and healthcare staff during the early stages of his medical career.
Research and Publications
In addition to clinical work, Dr. Gabriel has contributed to academic literature in the areas of trauma surgery and vascular care. His work has appeared in medical publications discussing complications following surgery and healthcare access issues in underserved communities.
One of his areas of focus has included rare complications such as chylous ascites after aneurysm repair. These contributions reflect a steady effort to support surgical best practices through academic dialogue and data-driven analysis.
Approach to Patient Care
At the core of Dr. Gabriel Carabello’s practice is a straightforward belief: the most essential part of his job is helping people get better. He sees his role not just as a surgeon but as a partner in the long-term health of his patients. Many of the individuals he treats face chronic or life-altering conditions, and he takes the time to build trust and communication with each one.
He values practical outcomes over accolades and focuses on creating an environment where patients feel informed, respected, and safe.
Life Outside of Medicine
Outside of surgery, Dr. Gabriel keeps a low profile. He enjoys watching baseball, hiking, and maintaining physical fitness through regular workouts. These activities help him manage the demands of a high-intensity profession and maintain a balanced lifestyle.
Though he does not participate in formal nonprofit efforts, his history of accepting roles in high-need medical areas shows a quiet form of community service. His presence in underserved locations is an ongoing part of his contribution to the field.
Current Practice and Ongoing Work
Dr. Gabriel Carabello continues to practice in Los Angeles and Yuma actively. He remains committed to patient care, keeps his license current, and stays informed about the latest developments in vascular medicine. With over 30 years of experience, his focus remains unchanged: delivering thoughtful, skilled care where it’s needed most.
